During this Free Webinar You Will Learn:

In 1992, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) first published recommendations regarding sleep position for infants with the intention of preventing Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Since then, recommendations have been expanded to include strategies for creating a safe sleep environment at home and in the hospital, including guidelines published by the National Association of Neonatal Nurses (NANN) in 2019.

Despite published recommendations, NICU staff continue to face challenges when deciding how and when to transition hospitalized infants to safe sleep. During this webinar, we’ll review published recommendations and guidelines, discuss barriers faced by NICUs, and explore strategies to transition infants to safe sleep in the hospital environment, as well as to role model safe sleep practices for caregivers so they are well-equipped to create safe sleep environments at home.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe the AAP and NANN guidelines for newborn safe sleep.
  2. Discuss 2 barriers to implementing safe sleep guidelines in the hospital environment.
  3. List 3 strategies to achieve safe sleep in the NICU.
